Know The Use Of Li-Ion Batteries

Posted in Laptop on July 18th, 2010 by Admin

In the international context, the Li-Ion batteries or Lithium Ion batteries are regarded as standard ones these days. Why not? They are found to have all the capacity of a NiMH battery, however with the presence of zero memory effect and zero toxins. Besides the weight of these batteries are half as much as NiMH batteries. Well, to this point we have understood that these batteries are essential to pacify the rising demands and are able to cope with various types of mechanisms. How are they available? Like other similar forms they are also found in three ways that include, used, refurbished, or new. Now it does depend on you which one to have, but it should be kept in mind that the used laptop batteries without being refurbished will probably last for merely 30 minutes to an hour at best before needing recharging. Conversely, the refurbished laptop batteries are available from most manufacturers and retailers of refurbished laptops, certainly in good condition than the used ones, but not like the new ones.

Well, if you think with the use of Li-Ion batteries you shall be in the best condition, you are totally wrong. Indeed there is a need to use several other things except that. For instance, at the time of using your laptop near a power source, there is the need of an A/C adaptor. However, at several times you will be forced to use your laptop with no access to a wall outlet, and the battery will run low. If there is any such situation you can extend the remaining power in the battery in three ways. They are, if your laptop processor does possess the feature of a power-save mode, you shall have to switch over to power-save mode. This will slow the laptop by up to 50%, doubling battery life for that time period. The next process is to turn off not pertinent energy-sucking elements. The major power vampires in your laptop are the hard drive, the CD and DVD drives, any networking devices, and any excessively bright screen settings. You shall also be able to double overall battery capacity by the means of the installation of a second battery. But to have this there is a need for your laptop to have a universal bay in order to do this. All you have to do is remove the CD-ROM or floppy drive and put a battery in its place. In this respect, the essence of the Li-Ion batteries comes before. In the modern days this happens to be one of the newest rechargeable batteries.

It is also true that they are quite more expensive than the other available brads of rechargeable batteries present in the market in these days, but at the same time, these very batteries have more capacity and therefore are often used in wireless phones, camcorders, and notebook computers. But there is also a problem that has been responsible for the rise of skepticisms from several quarters of the society. The negative aspect of the Li-Ion batteries is that the length of their life commences from the date of manufacture, which is just the opposite in respect of others, where the life gets initiated from the number of times the battery is charged and discharged. What is the best option in that case if anyone intends to sue these batteries? In that case, the best option is to charge the Li-Ion batteries in a regular manner an also to store the used batteries in the refrigerator, but at the same time it is also necessary to allow them to warm room temperature before making a good use of them.

But there is nothing to fear. The Li-Ion batteries are amply used in the electronic devices we own. Nowadays with the help of the new technology you can also buy from the Internet, but before everything try to know the profile of the company selling these batteries beforehand and also its uses. It is for your betterment

Advantages of SSD Hard Drives for Laptop Computers

Posted in Desktop Parts on July 13th, 2010 by Admin

As Flash-based solid state memory becomes more and more popular, prices have begun to drop and technology has improved. Lately, you can find a number of netbooks and notebooks which offer this solid-state laptop hard drives over traditional hard drives, and they bring with them a number of advantages.

First and foremost, solid state drives (also known as SSD drives) offer a remarkable performance advantage over typical laptop hard drives. This means that for hard drive intensive tasks, such as copying or moving files, or searching for files on a drive, an SSD will be much faster than a standard platter based drive.

SSDs also offer an edge in battery life. For standard hard drives, the faster a disk spins, the more power is required to physically spin the drive platter. With Flash memory there are no such moving parts, and as such there is less power required overall.

The lack of moving parts also makes solid state drives much more durable and reliable than standard drives, which can possibly save you a ton on laptop repair. If you drop your laptop, you don’t have nearly as many small parts to get out of whack as a standard drive does. Flash-based memory is solid and contained in a single, non-moving piece. Even if you drop your laptop and break the screen or cause other heavy damage to it, your data will be safe on an SSD; however on a normal drive your data is far more vulnerable. SSDs also produce less heat and electromagnetic interference than other drives do, reducing wear and tear on your machine’s hardware.

If you are interested in SSDs for your laptop, you can check out your favorite online laptop parts retailer for all the different size options for SSD Hard drives. SSDs can also be found in many different devices now, and have begun to replace Dell, Toshiba, and even Sony laptop hard drives in some of their machines.

Common Symptoms of a Bad Laptop Keyboard

Posted in Desktop Parts on July 10th, 2010 by Admin

Laptop keyboards, like any input device on your machine, take the most beating out of anything on your computer. With all the wear and tear they face, it isn’t uncommon to experience some issues with your keyboard. Below are some commonly experienced problems users face.

If your computer doesn’t recognize your keyboard, you should first check your connection. A damaged cable or connector could be causing input from your keyboard not to be relayed to your machine. Check for the lights on your keyboard, for example the Caps Lock button, and see if those are functional as well. If they light up, your keyboard is at least able to draw power from your machine, however there may be a hardware issue with your keyboard that is preventing it from relaying keystrokes.

As laptop keyboards go bad, oftentimes keys will begin to stick causing erroneous characters to be typed. This is often from something being spilled into the keyboard or if the rubber rings that keep your keys in place have worn or broken. In either event you may need to replace the entire laptop keyboard. This is less of a problem in so-called “chiclet style” keyboard such as the Sony laptop keyboards found in their VAIO line of notebook computers as there is very little gap between the keys for foreign matter to get in. If keys are routinely sticky, or get stuck in the pressed position, a full keyboard cleaning is usually your first course of action. If this doesn’t remedy or improve the situation, you may need to get a new keyboard from a reputable online laptop parts dealer. Most keyboards are easily replaced by the end user; however some keyboards require more skill and are better left to an authorized laptop repair center.

Sometimes, keyboard will partially fail. For example if your laptop keyboard involves the use of multimedia buttons, or partial touch interface (i.e. the track pad, or touch buttons for volume control and display), these individual components can fail, though the rest of your keyboard remains functional. For these types of issues you are best off contacting a laptop repair shop for further assistance, as some of these components may actually be software dependent, or require more delicate repairs.

Apple MC556LL/A Laptop AC Adapter Review

Posted in Desktop Parts on July 9th, 2010 by Admin

The Apple 85W MagSafe Power Adapter is the highest wattage available in this line of Apple MacBook AC adapters. It is designed for use with any 15 or 17 inch MacBook Pro models.

These MagSafe Apple laptop AC adapters bear the companies landmark magnetic design. Rather than plugging into a jack on your MacBook, these adapters instead latch onto your machine via a magnetic connection. Aside from giving your machine a very cool design factor, this is actually a very functional design. First, this design is as efficient as any DC jack connection. However, this magnetic connection is much faster, easier, and more convenient to attach and remove. Also, it doesn’t require any more parts on your machine, which means there’s less to break or require repair.

This is actually a safety feature of the machine as well. A common source of damage to both typical laptop AC adapters and DC jacks is caused when someone trips over or hits the cord connecting the adapter to the machine. In a DC jack connection, this connection is rigid, and the force can bend pins or jacks, or cause stress on the cord and connections themselves, which can damage or outright break your components. With this magnetic connection, the cord simply falls away, with no damage to either component, and even without any kind of accident, a much longer lifespan for your adapter.

Just like Apple’s innovative laptop batteries, these adapters also bear an LED light indicator indicating to you the status of its charging or running state. An amber light indicates your battery is charging, while a green light tells you your battery is fully charged. These adapters are designed with a unique shape as well, meant for the cord to wrap neatly and securely around its own cube designed plug, for convenient storage and portability.

You can find these adapters very easily through a laptop spare parts retailer or directly through Apple.

How to Replace the Keyboard on a Toshiba A105 Series

Posted in Desktop Parts on July 4th, 2010 by Admin

If your Toshiba laptop keyboard has stopped working with your Toshiba A105 laptop, replacing it can be fairly easy if you know what to do. As with any laptop repairs, your first step will be to remove the AC adapter and battery from your machine.

To begin removing your laptop keyboard, turn your machine upside down and remove the screws on the bottom that secure the keyboard in place. These screws should bear the keyboard icon next to them to identify which screws are holding the keyboard in place. Keep these screws in a cup or container to prevent losing them.

Next, turn your laptop top side up again, and gently remove the keyboard shield. The keyboard shield is basically the molding of your laptop over your keyboard. With a slim flat tool, such as plastic pry tool or finger nails, you should be able to wedge slightly beneath the shield and gently pop it up. Take care not to cut or damage your laptop frame, this should be a gentle motion.

With the shield and screws gone, you should be able now to partially remove the keyboard itself. As you lift the keyboard, you will see a myriad of other Toshiba laptop parts beneath, but in particular you should notice the cable running from the back of your Toshiba laptop keyboard to the main computer itself. This cable should disconnect, and your laptop keyboard can be fully removed.

To insert your new keyboard, simply reverse this process. Take your new keyboard, reconnect it to your cable, and then reseat your keyboard. Now, gently reapply your keyboard shield. Lastly, turn your laptop upside down, and reattach your screws. Once you’ve reattached your battery and/or AC adapter, you should be able to start your machine and use your new keyboard right away. Doing this replacement your self will save you time and money instead of having to take your machine into a laptop repair center.
